{"id":180,"date":"2015-01-01T19:38:49","date_gmt":"2015-01-02T02:38:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.magicwolf.com\/wanderings\/?p=180"},"modified":"2017-02-28T22:25:07","modified_gmt":"2017-03-01T05:25:07","slug":"wordpress-and-rotated-images","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.magicwolf.com\/wanderings\/wordpress-and-rotated-images\/","title":{"rendered":"WordPress and Rotated Images"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">UGH.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Just in case this can help keep someone else from tearing out fistfuls of hair in frustration.<\/p>\n<p>If you have an iPhone, which I&#8217;m growing sorry to say I do, you may run across a weird Twilight-Zone problem where any pictures you take with it&#8217;s camera and then upload to WordPress will display just fine on your PC, lulling you into a false sense of complacency, but then will oddly rotate themselves 90 degrees when viewed on an iPad or other mobile device.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say this greatly hampers ones layout, though it could be useful on a neck exercise site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.magicwolf.com\/wanderings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Neck-Strain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-184\" src=\"http:\/\/www.magicwolf.com\/wanderings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Neck-Strain.jpg\" alt=\"Neck Strain\" width=\"278\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.magicwolf.com\/wanderings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Neck-Strain.jpg 278w, http:\/\/www.magicwolf.com\/wanderings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Neck-Strain-150x103.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This rotation happens regardless of whether you&#8217;ve edited, uploaded, or played La Cucaracha to your pictures in desperation, trying to get them to work correctly.<\/p>\n<p>Sparing too much of the technical mumbo-jumbo, it has something to do with the EXIF metadata generated when a picture is taken. Stripping this data in my case helped.<\/p>\n<p>Windows does have the ability to remove EXIF data, but in my case it didn&#8217;t do a thorough enough job and the pictures, to my extreme irritation still rotated.<\/p>\n<p>So I used this free tool to strip the data:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"BatchPurifier LITE\" href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalconfidence.com\/downloads.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.digitalconfidence.com\/downloads.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And I was finally able to unclutch my hair and stop dancing around with maracas.
