Alti and Xena have quite a background. Alti used to be the Siberian Amazons' shamaness but she was kicked out of the tribe because she was so evil. Xena's lover, Borias, was mistrustful of Alti from the start. (Alti in fact ends up cursing Xena's son, Solan, to never know the love of his parents.)

Back in the days when Xena herself was still evil, Alti appeared as someone who promised to make Xena "The Destroyer of Nations." Xena found Alti's abilities and powers impressive and was initially hooked.

Alti convinced Xena to kill Cyane (the Siberian Amazon Queen) and she was focused on destroying the Siberian Amazons. She trapped their souls in limbo so they couldn't "cross over" in the Amazon Land of the Dead.

Xena finally kills Alti and sets the trapped Amazon souls free. However in the Xenaverse, one is not necessarily dead for good...

"What's she told you about me, little girl? Has she told you about my powers? Has she told you about this? ... That's my gift to you. That's your future. She's responsible for your death."

"You see, things aren't exactly the same as they are in your realm. Here, the strongest mind wins."

"Such a pleasure to see you again, Xena. Or should I call you ‘mommy'?

"Well, at least we'll be together again. I've so missed these intimate little moments."

"Now the real fun starts!"

"I'll become the face of death itself. Capable of destroying not only a person's body, but their souls. Help me, and I'll make you the Destroyer of Nations."

"Your little friend is dying with you, Xena. How does that make you feel?"

"I want to feel every delicious moment of your pain."

"I'm going to count to ten, and during this you will feel your body shutting down. Your heart will stop. You will cease to breathe, and at the count of ten you will die ... one ... two ... three ... four ... sharp pains in your arms as your blood pressure lowers ... six ... your brain is screaming ... seven ... eight ... nine ... one more count you will be dead ... ten."

"Well, at least we'll be together again. I've so missed these intimate little moments."
